The other night, sometime around 2am, I decided that it was useless to lay in bed and pretend I could sleep or even to trick my mind into falling asleep. Insomnia has been a common theme. I decided to do some reading, I picked up a small, very small book my mom gave me before I left to Romania “Follow your Dreams”. I opened it up to the page and read the following ” Remember there is plenty of time to travel another road-and still another- in your journey through life. Take the time to find the route that is right for you. You will learn something valuable from every trip you take so don’t be afraid to make mistakes. You’re okay just the way you are”- Jacqueline Schiff.
After reading this, I started to take a look at my pictures that I’ve taken in Romania and realized I have been doing a lot of traveling considering I have only been here for 4 months. Since I’ll start work on Monday, I know my life will become a lot more hectic and exciting. Before I know it I won’t have time to look at my pictures and reminisce about all the wonderful places I’ve visited and people I’ve met. I’ve traveled many roads in Romania, enjoy the glimpse into Sinaia, Braşov, Parâng Mountains and summer camp with the kids:
Sinaia: Went to Peleş Castle, a 160 room castle that was used by several Romanian monarchs. I saw the Armory Room, music room, library and spacious dinning room among other rooms filled with sculptures, crystal chandeliers. This immense castle is surrounded by a beautiful garden that raps around the front and has a perfect view of the Carpathian Mountains.
Braşov: One of my favorites places in Romania. The center has a large fountain, restaurants, cafés, small shops, long narrow alleys, outside market selling fresh bread, honey, jelly and other local products. Rode the cable car up the mountain to view the city…and hiked it back down. A 40mnt bus ride took me to the town of Brans were I visited Brans Castle–popularly known as Dracula’s Castle– this simple but legendary castle sits on the top of a hill and overlooks the town.
Parâng Mountains: Another adventure hiking in Romania, this time the hike was only 30mnts away from Novaci. Breathtaking views that I enjoyed during the 15K hike that took about 7hours to complete. During the hike I found frogs, fish, sheep, other hikers, 4 lakes, 1 steep and rocky mountain(where I fell) , and 3 new friends. During my daily walks, I look at the mountains that I’ve hiked and know that endless possibilities await me.
Summer Camp: In July I, along with three volunteers, worked an English summer camp. The kids have an incredible amount of energy for learning and in them I see the reason why I joined the Peace Corps.
oh yeah and I bought a bike.
